Support Groups

Getting together with others who face similar challenges is often a lifesaver. Having a safe place to meet, share your concerns, and express your thoughts is vital for coping with the effects of disease and disability. Drake Center is home to several different groups that provide support for individuals and families who are faced with the challenges of chronic illness and disability. The following community support groups are open to the public and meet regularly at Drake Center:

Stroke Survivors Support Group

This group provides an opportunity for stroke survivors and family members to gain feedback, share experiences, socialize informally, and receive information through professional speakers and networking.
Meets: Third Wednesday of each month from 7-9 p.m. in the Innovation Center (Room E).

Spinal Cord Injury Support Group (Brightside)

This group complements Drake Center’s spinal cord injury program by providing people with spinal cord injury and their caregivers a relaxed environment to share experiences and offer mutual support.
Meets: First Thursday of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Innovation Center (Room E).

Brain Injury Support Group

This group provides a confidential setting for participants to share information about their experiences with brain injury and to offer mutual support.
Meets: Fourth Thursday of each month (third Thursday in November and December) from 7-9 p.m. in the Innovation Center (Room D).

Mild Brain Injury Support Group

This group complements Drake Center's spinal cord injury program by providing people with spinal cord injury and their caregivers a relaxed environment to share experiences and offer mutual support.
Meets: First Friday of each month from 4-6:30 p.m. in Meeting Room H, and features the same speaker/topic at each meeting.
