U.S. State Department Asks Drake Center to Server as
Healthcare Model
Drake Center Will Host Korean Health Insurance Review
Agency Representative
CINCINNATI, OH-February 10, 2004——The
U.S. State Department and the International Visitors Council of Greater
Cincinnati has asked Drake Center to host on February 10, a reception and education session,
for Ms. Su-Kyeong Choi, a representative from the Korean government, on the full-range of services
Drake Center offers to the region and the nation alike. Choi’s mission on her
visit to the United States is to learn of the medical industry practices used
throughout the country, including the reimbursement systems, the use and pricing
of a variety of medical devices, and Medicare and Medicaid. As a result of the
State Department’s search for rehabilitative hospitals to serve as models to Ms.
Choi, they personally requested Drake Center to represent the United States as an example to
the Korean government.

Korea's healthcare system is in bankruptcy, with no clear plan for the future. Ms.
Choi will be exposed first-hand to the operation of the U.S. healthcare
system within an ethical, market-driven business practice. Her experience
will help her strategically revise the Korean agency’s present reimbursement
system without the access to advanced medical devices. “This
is a great honor for Drake Center,” said Roberta Bradford, president and CEO of Drake Center. “As a
result of Drake’s committed staff and our ability to provide a full range of
specialized medical and rehabilitative services, we are being recognized by
our government. We are delighted Drake is able to serve as a model for the
international community. We are proud of this opportunity.”

The U.S. State Department is sponsoring Ms. Su-Kyeong Choi’s visit, a key
official at the Health Insurance Review Agency (HIRA). Her responsibilities
as assistant manager include the review, assessment and after-management of
reimbursement pricing of medical devices, as well as the reimbursement
guidelines that HIRA develops to determine the policies for usage of all
medical devices.

“Drake Center is a valuable resource in the Cincinnati
area,” said Marianne Crotty, director of international programs for the
International Visitors Council of Cincinnati. “Drake’s success as one of the
region’s top healthcare facilities is not only recognized locally, but
nationally. The recognition from the State Department only cements this
sentiment.”
