Mark McEwen Life After Stroke Event

The Drake Foundation presents Life After Stroke with Mark McEwen, former CBS news anchor and weatherman, on May 14, 2009.

Mark McEwen suffered a stroke on November 15, 2005. After 15 years on CBS's The Early Show, he had moved to Orlando to anchor the local news and spend more time with his family. While traveling, he experienced symptoms that led him to the hospital, where he was misdiagnosed and sent home. Two days later, he collapsed, and his slurred speech and heavy sweating were discounted. Misinformation not only delayed his treatment, but it also nearly cost him his life.

America's beloved morning-show weatherman recalls his harrowing journey of rehabilitation in the candid and moving memoir, Change in the Weather. The book traces his recovery in the aftermath of stroke, and signals a change in America's mindset.

Each day Drake Center provides the region's most advanced stroke recovery treatment and research. The Drake Foundation presents Life After Stroke is a combination of events to help raise awareness of the causes of stroke, educate the community about stroke prevention, and support additional research toward life-changing rehabilitation after stroke.  Read about a real patient and his experience with stroke recovery at Drake Center.
