Volunteers add to the quality of our health care by providing services that supplement professional staff activities and add to the comfort, care, and happiness of our patients.
As a volunteer, you are a key member of our quality health care team and enjoy the feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction that come from it. Volunteers work in a specific hospital area for at least two hours per week on the day or days of their choice. Each person is assigned a supervisor who lends help and gives direction.
We accept volunteers ages 14 and up.

Volunteering as a patient visitor
Even though family and friends do their best to visit Drake Center patients, sometimes they're unable to see them as often as they would like.
A volunteer's happy face, friendly smile, willing hands, and understanding heart can mean a great deal. Patient Visitors spend time with patients, sharing their time and experiences with them.
Activities and special needs volunteers
Volunteers are needed not just to visit patients, but throughout the hospital for special assignments and activities. Your volunteer experience could include:
- Helping with special events such as bingos, carnivals, picnics, outings, and other patient programs
- Working at home to sew and/or create useful items such as lap robes, laundry bags, and wheelchair or appliance bags
- Escorting patients to special events and religious services
- Working in the gift shop
- Serving as a patient representative
- Working in aquatic therapy
- Assisting in the computer center
