Drake Center: Specialized Medical & Rehabilitative Care

Diagnostic Radiology Services

Drake Center is pleased to offer a wide variety of state-of-the-art, on-site diagnostic radiology services for both inpatients and outpatients. Needed for accurate diagnosis of conditions, these convenient, expert services are designed to meet patients’ and physicians’ specialized needs.

Studies are performed by radiologic technologists licensed by the state of Ohio and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. These studies are interpreted by licensed, board-certified radiologists from University Radiology Associates. All these radiologists are faculty members of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

On-site ultrasound exams are performed and interpreted by qualified experts from Midwest Ultrasound.

Range of services

A number of diagnostic radiology services are provided at Drake Center, each requiring a signed physician’s order. They include:

  • NEW! CT scans - performed using a spiral CT scanner owned and managed by University Radiology Associates (URA). CT scans are interpreted by URA radiologists. All neurologic scans are interpreted by a URA neuroradiologist. Benefits of spiral CT scanners are shorter exam times, decrease in contrast volumes, and high clarity.

  • Diagnostic x-rays - include chest, spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), bone (ankle, hand, leg, etc.), and abdomen.

  • Digital fluoroscopy procedures - available for specific diagnostic needs, such as upper gastrointestinal (GI) series, lower GI series, small bowel series, and intravenous pyelography (kidneys, ureter, bladder). This process involves rapid-succession imaging. The radiologist reads and interprets the results.

  • Modified Barium Swallow program - developed in 1986, making Drake Center one of the pioneers in dysphagia study in the Tri-state. These studies are performed in collaboration with the Speech-Language Pathology and Dietary departments, and are recorded on videotape with audio comments. The radiologist and speech-language pathologist assess the videotape and provide dietary recommendations.

  • Ultrasound exams - performed on-site by Midwest Ultrasound, a contracted firm specializing in non-invasive ultrasound procedures. An ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of organs inside the body. Abdominal, echocardiography, and vascular ultrasound exams are provided. All exams are interpreted by professional, board-certified readers for Midwest Ultrasound.

  • Portable bedside exams - provided as necessary, using mobile equipment available at Drake Center.
