Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation at Drake Center treats a broad range of inpatient and outpatient care needs, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which encompasses emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and allied conditions; asthma; cystic fibrosis; and interstitial, neuromuscular, occupational, and environmental lung disease.

Screening of potential patients

Appropriate referrals include adults, 16 and older, with symptomatic lung disease, including, but not limited to, persistent asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, history of ARDS, pre- and post-lung transplant, and pre- and post-lung surgery.

Specialized approaches

  • A medical director board-certified in pulmonology is available to the attending physician for consultation.
  • Individualized education and training programs encourage patients to make behavioral changes that will lead to improved health.
  • Specially trained staff, using state-of-the-art monitoring and exercise conditioning equipment, track patients' progress.
  • A smoking cessation program is offered to help adult smokers who desire to quit.
  • Family involvement is encouraged and support services are provided. In addition, a monthly pulmonary support group is available.
