Cardiac Rehabilitation

For the individual who has experienced a heart attack, angioplasty, heart surgery, or chest pain, Drake Center offers one of the most comprehensive and skilled cardiac rehabilitation programs in the region. Our program is designed for the individual looking to maintain a healthier heart, learn more about how to lower cholesterol through good nutrition, and make progress in physical activity. It may be the key to building a healthier life-style; changing exercise, diet, and smoking habits; becoming more active and independent; and leading a more productive and happy life.

Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, the cardiac rehabilitation program at Drake Center helps the individual achieve these goals:

  • Recognize heart disease signs/symptoms and the need for medical treatment.
  • Improve functional abilities.
  • Lessen activity-related symptoms.
  • Reduce disability.
  • Decrease the potential for a new cardiac event by modifying risk factors.

How the process works

  • Referral and evaluation process - A doctor’s order is needed to begin cardiac rehabilitation at Drake Center. The individual is scheduled for an evaluation by the cardiac rehabilitation team. The team then develops an individualized plan for the person's education and exercise conditioning.
  • Inpatient rehabilitation (Phase I) - this phase may be initiated at Drake Center or at an acute care hospital while the individual is recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery. Length varies according to ne
  • Early outpatient rehabilitation (Phase II)
  • Maintenance exercise (Phases III and IV)

  • Diagnostic testing (arterial blood gases, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function testing, overnight oximetry, exercise oximetry, and Holter monitoring; laboratory and radiology services also available)
