Drake Center: Specialized Medical & Rehabilitative Care

Spine Management

Drake Center’s outpatient spine management services treat individuals with pain caused by back and neck disorders or spine disease, so that their condition can be improved without surgery. Drake Center’s board-certified physician specialist utilizes a step-by-step, comprehensive approach to achieve maximum improvement using the least invasive treatments possible.

Range of services

Examples of conditions treated by Drake Center’s spine management services include pain from herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and a range of other neck and back disorders. The on-site physician has extensive training and experience in state-of-the-art treatment for these kinds of conditions.

The goals are to relieve symptoms of pain and to improve the patient’s functional abilities to perform activities of daily living. Treatments progress to the next stage only as needed:

First stage

  • Physical therapy and oral anti-inflammatory medications
  • Patient education about needed activity modifications and restrictions
  • Back education, including proper posture

Second stage

(if needed, to help identify the effects of the injury or disease on nerves or muscles)

  • Electromyography (EMG); or
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); or
  • X-ray

Third stage

(if needed, for complete cure or dramatic improvement of symptoms)

  • Spinal injections of medical steroids and local anesthetics to reduce spinal inflammation, all performed under x-ray guidance for maximum precision and safety.

If it is determined that the patient may need surgery, help in coordinating an appointment with one of the Tri-state’s foremost spine surgeons is provided.
