Drake Center: Specialized Medical & Rehabilitative Care

Inpatient Referral & Admission

When a prospective inpatient is referred, a specially trained registered nurse can visit for a free on-site assessment within 24 hours of receiving the referral, to determine if Drake Center is the right facility for this patient.

Drake Center’s staff can determine the need for additional assistance and verify benefits with the patient’s insurance carrier (Medicare, Medicaid, Workers’ Compensation, or the commercial carrier). Learn more about Drake Center's Financial Information & Insurance Coverage.

Drake Center’s user-friendly admitting procedures offer the following features:

  • Preevaluation of the patient
  • 24-hour physician coverage
  • Weekend admissions
  • Clarification and precertification of insurance coverage
  • Holiday admissions

If it is determined that Drake meets the patient's needs, the discharge planner from the referring facility is notified, and Drake staff will precertify admission. If Drake Center is not appropriate for the patient, recommendations are made for other placement.

Tours of Drake Center can be scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 12 noon, by calling the number below.

On the day of admission, a family member can visit the Admitting office to complete the necessary paperwork, or an admissions team member can come to the patient’s room. To ease the process, patients should bring:

  • Insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid identification card
  • Copies of Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care (if completed)
  • Name, address, and phone number of primary care physician
  • Copy of patient handbook (if the patient has received one)

The case manager will give the patient and family an orientation to Drake Center services and their unit (including the Drake Center video), literature about Drake Center, and a booklet on patients’ rights and responsibilities. Once the patient is admitted, a Drake Center physician will complete a medical examination. The treatment team will then work with the patient and family to develop an individualized plan of care.
