
Dr. Austin Nobunaga is the Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program at Drake Center and one of the field’s most accomplished specialists. With more than 20 years in the field, Dr. Nobunaga was one of the first 150 physicians in the country to receive special certification in spinal cord injury medicine from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He also serves as an oral board examiner for board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Nobunaga is a consummate lecturer, addressing regional medical schools as well as professional associations and patient organizations. He has written articles exploring issues related to spinal cord injury, including its effects on blood pressure management and how the length of hospital stay impacts patient recovery.
On the leading edge of spinal cord injury research—including the use of holistic medicine—Dr. Nobunaga is involved with research on drug treatment for spasticity management.
A member of both the National Spinal Cord Injury Association and the American Spinal Injury Association, Dr. Nobunaga is an expert in all types of spinal cord injuries, which are most commonly caused by motor vehicle accidents, falls, violence and sports-related incidents.
