Paul D. Newman, Ph.D.

As Director of Behavioral Health, Dr. Paul Newman guides Drake Center's medical psychology/neuropsychology services. Drake patients complex injuries and illnesses cause emotional upheaval that can be difficult and challenging for them and their families. The medical psychology/neuropsychology team knows the best possible recovery requires expert attention to patients skills, attitudes, behaviors and family relationships as well as their physical well being. The team's specialized services include rehabilitation psychology, neuropsychological evaluation and pain management.

Led by Dr. Newman, these trained, experienced professionals assess and treat the overlapping area between medical illnesses and psychological problems. As a licensed psychologist, he also provides expert direct clinical care.

In addition, Dr. Newman serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Wright State University School of Medicine. He is also Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the UC College of Medicine. Before joining Drake, he was Director Of Neuropsychology Services at the Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute, Kettering Medical Center, Dayton. He is also a respected author of numerous articles and abstracts in his field. In 2001, he won the Cognitive Neuroscience Award from the American Psychological Association.

He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Cincinnati. In addition, he completed a postdoctoral residency in neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.
