Dr. Tom Watanabe

A specialist in the field of brain injury, Dr. Thomas Watanabe serves as both the Medical Director of Neurological Rehabilitation and the Director of the Polio Survivors Clinic at Drake Center.

Since completing a Traumatic Brain Injury Fellowship in 1996, Dr. Watanabe has continued to build a sterling reputation in the field. He has written more than 30 articles and abstracts, and authored a chapter on the medical complications of traumatic brain injuries in the recently published State-of-the-Art Reviews.

Also noteworthy is Dr. Watanabe’s use of botulinum toxin, intrathecal Baclofen, and other techniques for medical purposes, including the treatment of spasticity, a chronic movement disorder that often accompanies acquired brain injuries.

A noted lecturer, Dr. Watanabe has presented on the full range of brain injury issues and trends to audiences nationwide, from the Brain Injury Association Annual Meeting to the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He also serves on national committees in the field of rehabilitation.
